The Concept

What Is The Open Run?

The Open Run is a controlled, competitive basketball run for young players who want to test their game against other strong players in a real gym environment.

The Idea

A lot of us grew up finding basketball games at local parks, gyms, and neighborhood courts. The game was simple: show up, compete, find your place in the run, and see where your game stood.

Young players do not always get that same kind of basketball environment. Many of them spend most of their time playing with the same teammates, classmates, and league opponents.

The Open Run gives competitive young players a place to step into a different gym, play with different teammates, and compete against players they may not normally see.

Why It Exists

Good young players need more chances to compete against other good young players. The purpose is to create a strong basketball environment where the pace, matchups, and competition make players adjust.

Different From A League

League games usually come with set teams, set roles, and familiar opponents. The Open Run changes the environment so players have to communicate, figure things out, and compete without relying on the comfort of their normal team.

Different From A Camp Or Tryout

Camps usually focus on stations, drills, instruction, and group development. Tryouts usually focus on selection or evaluation. The Open Run is centered on live basketball and competition.

No Player Made Teams

Players will not pick their own teams. That is part of the point. Players have to learn how to compete with different teammates, adjust to different matchups, and contribute without controlling the group around them.

Built For Competitors

The Open Run is for players who already enjoy competitive basketball and want to test their game. Players should have enough basketball proficiency to play within the basic rules of the game, understand normal game flow, follow direction, and compete safely with other players in a fast moving environment.

Who Should Register?

The best fit is a player who enjoys real basketball, wants stronger matchups, and is comfortable being challenged by the pace of the gym.

The Open Run is also a good fit for players who need more reps outside of their normal team setting and want to learn how to play with different teammates.

Because this event is designed for competitive, higher level basketball, parents should consider waiting for a more instructional setting if their player is inexperienced, entry level, or still learning the basic rules and flow of the game.
