Who Is Behind The Open Run?

The Open Run is hosted by people who believe basketball can create better opportunities, stronger confidence, and real leadership for young players in the Coastal Bend.
Why We Created It
Many players spend time training, practicing, and developing their skills, but they do not always get enough opportunities to test those skills outside of regular league and tournament play.
The Open Run was created to give players another basketball environment where they can show up, compete, play with different teammates, face different matchups, and see how their game holds up in a real run.
Beyond The Arc
Beyond The Arc is a basketball mentorship initiative currently being organized as a nonprofit entity. Its purpose is to use basketball to mentor young players and help them become leaders on and off the court.
The vision is to create opportunities for younger players through free camps, clinics, and development events, while also giving experienced players opportunities to grow by helping lead, teach, and serve.
As Beyond The Arc develops, future goals include supporting local teams and players with uniforms, shoes, gym fees, tournament fees, and other basketball-related needs, all with the larger purpose of raising leaders in the Coastal Bend through basketball, mentorship, service, and competition.
Ralph Perez
Ralph Perez is a parent, volunteer coach, and youth basketball trainer who has worked with young players for over five years, including coaching at the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club, CCPALs, and tournament basketball.
Ralph currently helps oversee both a 12U team and 10U team with Coach Isaak Alaniz, who also has extensive youth coaching experience. Together, they are focused on creating organized, competitive, and positive basketball environments where young players can grow.
What Parents Can Expect From Us
Parents can expect a clear purpose, organized game flow, limited spots, and a focus on competitive basketball.
We want the gym to feel competitive without being chaotic. Players will know when they are up, games will keep moving, and the environment will stay focused on the players.
Our goal is to provide a safe opportunity to grow our players and allow them to compete.
